Sal Fasano Still Has Awesome Mustache

Posted on 25 August 2010 by David Chalk

When last we left Sal Fasano, he was enjoying his first year as a minor league manager and being more likeable than A-Rod.  In an update from Canada’s National Post, Fasano’s mustache is still quite awesome:

And at least one of his players really likes the man behind the mustache.  Kevin Ahrens, a first-round pick in 2007 by the Blue Jays who’s now 21 and still hasn’t gotten higher than A-ball, raves about his pal Sal:

Sal’s a great guy, a great manager. He’s really taught me more about baseball and life, and how to separate them, and come to the ballpark every day with a great attitude. I thank him for that.

Through his first 124 games as a minor league manager, Sal Fasano is 62-62.  The season ends on September 6, but his Lansing Lugnuts still have an outside chance at making the playoffs, needing to gain two games in the standings and move past two other teams.

Sal Fasano On Mustaches, A-Rod & Managing In The Minors

Posted on 19 May 2010 by David Chalk

The storied MLB career of Sal Fasano and his mustache came to a close last season.  This year they are on a new journey, heading the Lansing Lugnuts, A-ball affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.  On his facebook page, Fasano lists three personal interests: “Growing kickass mustaches, being as stereotypically Italian as possible, being the epitome of awesome.”

In a recent Bowling Green Daily News interview, Fasano spoke about his mustache and what makes him more likeable than Alex Rodriguez:

This is me for some reason. Ever since I was a kid I loved it. I had an uncle, Wally, who used to have a fu manchu. I was like, ‘When I get older, I’m going to have a mustache just like you.’ I like it. It’s me and my personality.

There is something to being a common guy. I’m not a flashy guy. I drive a truck. … I’m not afraid to show emotion.

You can actually relate to a guy like me easier than you can a guy like … A-Rod … but when you try hard, most people like the underdog. That’s kind of what my whole career has been.
