Thanks MLB Media!! You Stole Lima Time!!!!!!

Posted on 24 May 2010 by Ethan Jaynes

José Desiderio Rodriguez Lima (September 30, 1972 – May 23, 2010). There is no more Lima Time. He died of a massive heart attack. I found it as a bit of a surprise. He was always so full of energy, and he was only 37 years old. The pic below was taken 5-21 at Dodger Stadium. 2 days later he passed.

I have 2 things I must say

1. God bless his family during this time.

2. I was looking for examples of “Lima Time”. Jose was known for his outbursts, his towel waving, his fights, his great pitching ( he was an all star ) his singing, and well … Lima Time.

MLB Media has a very financially sound plan. They take down all MLB videos, so when you want to find them, you can’t. There are no videos of Jose Lima. There is no Lima Time on the internet. Just close your eyes and remember. Thanks MLB Media!! You Stole Lima Time!!!!!!

MLB Loves To Hide Their Beautiful Game

Posted on 15 March 2010 by Ethan Jaynes

MLB Loves To Hide Their Beautiful Game. You might notice something a little different on our blog’s “Header”. The pic on the top of the blog used to say that this was “an MLB blog.” I was sent an email from “MLB Advanced Media” stating that I must “Cease and Desist” from using MLB terms on my site. They thought that people would confuse this blog for a blog that is on the MLB website. That is how much they think of your intelligence.

I changed it, as you can see. I am not going to try to stick it to the man. I am just going to point out that the man is a moron.

I have not liked MLB’s internet policies since the first time I tried to find an MLB highlight on the internet. It turns out the MLB destroys all content that gets posted on Youtube. So the average fan, that wants to see highlights of a player that does not play in their city
1. Will not see it on their local news.
2. Can not see it on Youtube.
3. Can not find it on their favorite baseball blog or message board, because it is not embeddable from MLB’s website
4. Has to watch all of MLBTV, and hope to catch it.
5. Has to watch 1 hour of SportsCenter and hope that they show the play.
6. Go to MLB’s website and watch every single video one at a time, and search for it, if they have it.

The NBA on the other hand, has a firm grasp on the internet, and it’s power. As soon as you want to see an NBA blooper, highlight, or fan video, you will find it on Youtube, all over the internet on message boards, on Digg, Ballhype, Blogs etc… But who put those videos everywhere? The fans did. The NBA saves millions of advertising doll hairs by having their game in everyone’s face, and they are paying zilch for it. They are just allowing their fans to do it.

Here is a question that I want you to ask yourself. “What was the last funny thing an MLB player said or did?”. I know that it is an odd question, but please remember that humor is a huge part of baseball. If you do not count managers, like Ozzie Guillen, then you will most likely be hard pressed to come up with something very recent. Think of all the funny baseball movies, great Babe Ruth clips, and all the funny timeless quotes that we all heard/watched on Ken Burns “Baseball”, and look at how the game is packaged today.

“MLB Advanced Media” is anything but “Advanced”. They are hiding their beautiful game in an age where everyone wants things now. No one wants to search high and low for it. MLB most likely makes a tiny bit of money from their website full of pop up ads and unembeddable clips. I guarantee you that the NBA makes tons more, and they are not forcing anyone to only watch clips on their site.

If I were in charge of “MLB Advanced Media” I would do a little forward thinking. I would let anyone post clips, bloopers, highlights, videos and audio anywhere they would want to. Those videos will be there forever. The free advertising will be all over the internet long after we are all gone.

Am I mad that they made me change my blog header? No. Am I mad that instead of trying to develop ways to bring baseball to the masses, they are worrying about my blog header? … Yeah I am mad.

PODCAST: Chalk & Mevs talk Ivan Calderon, DEVIL-Rays, & the like

Posted on 12 March 2010 by TheNaturalMevs

Last night Chalk stopped by The Baseball Show by Diamond Hoggers to talk for a bit. We ended up getting off the beaten path. When I say we got off the beaten path, we talk about Ivan Calderon hitting for the video game home run cycle; as well as a variety of other topics.

If you’re bored at work today, give it a whirl. Good and wholesome baseball talk.

My sincere apologies to fake Butch Huskey

Posted on 13 February 2010 by Ryan Henning

In my fervent Googling to create the probable Pulitzer winning Cold Stahoviak, I came across a Facebook page for one Butch Huskey. It didn’t have a picture of Butch as the profile picture, but it said he was from New York, so I said “what the heck!” and added him as a friend (PS, you can become a fan of The Victoria Times, my other blog, if you want to feel a little closer to me). Much to my surprise, he accepted within hours. Awesome.
Naturally, I immediately went and checked out his profile. It was not the Butch Huskey we all know and love. Instead, it was a city worker who lists his job as moving heavy objects (paraphrased). Also, he looked a little like Fat Joe and his birthdate was a couple years off from the authentic Butch Huskey. Damn. Anyways, without revealing too much about fake Butch Huskey, I can tell you that he seemed like a scary dude, one that might not take to kindly to some punk blogger friending him because he had the same name as a mediocre ball player, so I promptly unfriended.
Now I am feeling a slight twinge of regret. I’m putting out the APB, because I’m fascinated. If you know anything about Butch Huskey, real or fake, I have grown intrigued. Please, pass along any information you have to me at thevictimes[at]gmail.com. I would love to hear from you.

MHOF Retrospecticus I

Posted on 06 January 2010 by Kevin Lager

On the day of his retirement, The Big Unit Randy Johnson became the 25th member of the prestigious and time-honoued MLB Mustache Hall of Fame.

Twenty-five. That’s a quarter-century, and a good time for a retrospecticus. Where does your team stack up, if it even stacks at all? What position is the stacheingest?

7IS to Andre Dawson: Congrats & You’re Welcome

Posted on 06 January 2010 by David Chalk

We here at 7th Inning Stache mainly concern ourselves with the MLB Mustache Hall of Fame, and don’t think too much of that other HOF in Cooperstown.  However, it’s worth noting that 7IS did endorse one candidate and one candidate only for this year’s Cooperstown election.  That candidate was Expos/Cubs legend Andre Dawson.

Today, Andre Dawson was the one and only candidate to gain enough votes to get into Cooperstown, joining a prestigious elite group who are Cooperstown HOFers and MHOFers.

As for Bert Blyleven who missed out by the slimmest of margins, we’ll see what we can do for you next year.

If you’re in the mood for more HOF reading, we got some links for youse:

  • AUDIO: classic 80′s song proclaiming that Andre Dawson is in fact a hero. [midwest SPORTS fans]
  • Sooze seems a little upset about the voting.  Even if you don’t share her outrage, is it possible to see Blyleven’s I Heart To Fart shirt enough? [sports UNTAPPED]
  • Great interview with Jonah Keri on Tim Raines and the HOF voting process by B&C’s answer to Barbara Walters, Landon Evanson. [bugs&cranks]
  • Blyleven’s chances for 2011. [wezen-ball]
  • Sky Andrecheck’s Alternate Universe Hall Of Fame makes a helluva lot of sense.  I hope he approves of our MHOF methods. [the BASEBALL analysts]

  • Kevin Lager: #Dawson4TheHall [7is]

Nationals Pitcher Makes Twitter Account For Mustache; Stache’s Second Tweet Is @7IS

Posted on 21 December 2009 by David Chalk

collin-balester-mustacheCollin Balester, who has started 22 games for the Washington Nationals over the past two years, took his twittering to exciting new heights last night.

Late Sunday afternoon or early Sunday evening, the pitcher tweeted, “Thinking about making a Twitter for my stache haha.”

Approximately three hours later, the thought was put into action: “I feel weird that I just made a twitter for my Stache lol not sure if ill keep it..” andI dont know how long I will keep it but it is @TheSTACHE0BALLY

The first tweet of the @TheSTACHE0BALLY twitter account was merely “I love being on the upper lip of bally :) ”, but the second was@7IS Where Am I on your lists??”

Clearly, this is not your average Major League Baseball player, nor is it your average mustache.  7th Inning Stache wishes all the best to Collin Balester and his mustache, and we certainly see 7IS MLB Mustache Hall of Fame potential in them both.

For those who might say “Too much, too soon,” we point out that already in his young career, Balester has pitched more than twice as many innings as MHOFer Clay Zavada.
