Early indicators on MLB 2k10

So I went against everything I said I’d do and went out and bought MLB 2k10 last night right after work. After spending an evening playing it, I’m confident to say that it’s not going to end up one of the top 10 baseball video games of all time.

The decent news is, it’s going to be good enough to get me through the summer; I think.

Being the resident 27 year old idiot that still plays baseball video games and ignores his girlfriend, I want to bring up a few points that strike me after one night of playing:

-Hitting is next to impossible. There’s four skill levels: Rookie, Pro, All-Star, and Legend. I played on All-Star and you’re not going to hit on that level at at all at first. I struck out 17 times in game 1 and 14 times in game 2. I then let Brad Penny strike out the first 7 guys on game three before shutting it off. I think I had 8 at-bats with Jay Bruce (pictured above). I struck out 7 times with him, and managed one fielders choice groundout. When you’re getting excited about hitting into fielders choice’s on a baseball video game, there’s problems. I’m going to bump it down to ‘Pro’ tonight since I managed about 10 singles and 1 double down the line with Drew Stubbs.

-Lost my first game 1-0 on a top of the 9th bomb from Albert Pujols. Actually won my 2nd game of the season 4-3 in 11 innings with Brandon Phillips getting the game-tying and game winning RBI’s in the 9th and 11th frames.

-The fielding glitches are gone.

-The player models (I had to snap one of young Bruce in the outfield) are the coolest part of the game. Every single player whether a star or obscure looks like his real life counterpart. Stay tuned for more as I create them with my iPhone.

All in all it was kind of still a frustrating night of gaming. It’s good to know everyone who is gaming is having the same problem though.
