Gorman Thomas MLB HOF Mustache

Posted on 13 December 2009 by Paul Rice

This is day 15 of the “7th Inning Stache”s 100 days of MLB mustaches. All of the Staches will be cataloged in our MLB Mustache Hall Of Fame. If you have any tips on some fielding first basemen follicle follies please email us the tip @ NESWblogs-at-gmail.com.

If Gorman Thomas’s mustache were a beer, it would be a Guinness. Simply the best. The analogy is especially appropriate because no player epitomized the beer-swilling, heavy-hitting Harvey’s Wallbanger Brewers of 1982 quite like Thomas. He looked less like a baseball player than the local blue-collar slob you’d see haunting the local tavern after a hard week at work, and that’s why fans loved him. He’d smack you about 35 homers a year while, shockingly, playing a very adept center field. In 1974, he bashed 51 homers for my hometown Sacramento Solons (for a team that hit 305 on the season! Can you say hitter’s park?). He was a unique player amongst one of the most colorful teams we’ll ever see.

Each day we describe the stache in one word.

Gorman Thomas= Intoxicating.
